Photos of May 2014 International Board of Governors Meeting |

As a Circumnavigator, Dan Peterson knows that the journey is frequently as rewarding as the the destination.
To support his love of flying, he pilots his single engine Piper Mirage aircraft to out of town meetings whenever possible.
The Circumnavigator International Board of Governors meeting in New York City on 30 May, 2014 was a case in point.
Fellow Chicago Chapter members Alice Lentzen & CJ Ford accepted his offer to have them hitch a ride in his six-seater.
Although the flight time is roughly double, flying from the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling to the Teterboro airport in New Jersey is so scenic it is worth the extra time (plus a lot less TSA interaction).

Leaving Chicago Executive Airport on the 29th:

All parties arrived at the former Palwaukee airfield in the AM on May 29th.
On the left we have the aircraft parked at the "Gate" fully fueled & ready to go.
The fuel tank holds 120 gallons at roughly $6/gal (avg $/mile = $0.53).
Pilot/Circumnavigator Dan Peterson completes the inspection & stores the luggage.
Once boarded, the plane taxied out to the runway.
On the right, pilots Dan & Alice Lentzen request tower clearance for take off to Teterboro Airport, New Jersey.
Once aloft, the clear skies convinced Dan to take in a bit of local siteseeing. |

Chicago Sights on the way East:

On the left they spy such Lake Michigan-based Chicago landmarks as the John Hancock, Willis & now infamous Trump Towers.
On the right they take in the view of Midway Airport.
Flying near busy O'Hare Airport is strictly a no-no.
Pilot Dan then headed the aircraft further South to skirt Lake Michigan before heading due East over
Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York & New Jersey. |

Landing at Teterboro, disembarking and securing the equipment:

Once over Teterboro, Dan requested permission to land.
With permission quickly granted, he guided the craft to a safe landing.
On the left Dan is pulling into his assigned landing "gate" & is about to turn off his engine.
The passengers then dis-embarked with their luggage.
On the right Dan then confirms that the aircraft is properly parked for the next few days. |

After a short ride to New York City, the team of travellers check into their hotel rooms & prepare for Friday's Board meetings.
On the left you see the Chicago delegation of Lentzen, Ford, Arimond & Peterson posing for a picture before the meeting begins.
On the right Alice & CJ take some time off to tour New York's Central Park. |

Returning home on the 31th with a refueling stop and more Chicago sightseeing:

On Saturday our band of travellers reboard & take-off flying for Chicago.
On the left, the team is making a scheduled re-fueling rest stop in Warsaw, Indiana.
The aircraft's cruising speed is 250 mph with a 1300 mile range & 25K foot ceiling.
On the right they have resumed their route & are now passing Chicago's famous lakeside Museum Campus area.
You can see Soldier Field, the Adler Planetarium & Shedd Aquarium. |

 |
|
 |
|
On the left you can see Chicago's Navy Pier & water filtration plant as the aircraft continues North towards Wheeling.
On the right you see the famous lakefront Bahai Temple in Wilmette.
This is currently the oldest operating Bahai temple in the world.
Dan then pilots the aircraft back to Wheeling's Chicago Executive Airport.
Once landed the passengers express their desire to do this again. |
